So the book I chose to read for May was right up my alley, although I'm sure it was so far away from some people's alley's it really should belong in a different county.
But anyways...
My Fantabulous Review of May's Selection:
The Autobiography of Henry VIII- Margaret George
Rating: HOMERUN!!!!
This book was everything a H.N (that is History Nerd, natch....) would want in a book. It was easy to read, not too full of complicated politics of the story flowed really well.If any of you out there like history books and have read The Other Boleyn Girl or anything like that, you might want to try this big boy out.
There are so many books out there about Henry's wives, and told from his wive's perspectives. This was the first book I've ever come across that was told from Henry's point of view, and it really broke a lot of stereotypes about him.
Other than he was fat. That's true.
And he did have 6 wives and had 2 of them executed. That's true too.
And he did have a bad temper. That's definitely true.
But there were some things that surprised me.. the tenderness he showed toward people he loved, and how insecure he was throughout his life and wanted desperately to be loved and accepted... and acted out a lot because of that insecurity.
Hm.... he's the Medieval version of the modern train-wreck celebrity....
Henry really needed Dr. Drew's rehab I think.
Anyways, I LOVED this book.. and totally recommend it to anyone who likes this genre.
Happy Reading my dear ladies!!
