A Harris Corp. (NYSE: HRS) team has won a prime position on a potential $10 billion U.S. Army contract for tactical communications systems and equipment, the company announced Wednesday.

Under the five-year indefinite-delivery-indefinite-quantity contract, the team will compete to provide defense and civilian agencies products, systems and engineering services.

?Harris and its partners will work together to provide advanced, networked communications systems that meet the critical needs of our warfighters and security agencies,? said Sheldon Fox, president of the government communications systems segment.

Potential customers for the Global Tactical Advanced Communication Systems vehicle include the departments of Defense and Homeland Security, the company said.

Equipment covered under the IDIQ includes wireless networking, tactical satellite communications and handheld Joint Tactical Radio System-compliant radios.

The Army?s program executive office for command, communications and control awarded the contract.

Harris also holds a prime position on a $3 billion DHS radio and equipment contract awarded in April, with Computer Sciences Corp. (NYSE: CSC) working with Harris as a subcontractor on the project.
